Asking questions about faith and God

What a great Alpha course we are having, people coming and exploring the questions of faith, last week we had Lee leading us and exploring the question of ‘How Can I Have Faith?’ which led to amazing discussions and some affirming moments.

Our Wednesday evening sessions start with food, because it’s a great way to build community and get to know each other. Join us this coming Wednesday 29th May at 7pm when we will be exploring ‘Why and How Do I Pray?’

See the world in a totally different dimension and clarity

At #WarrigtonAlpha one guest said they were astonished how much evidence there is for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, I hadn’t really realised how many of the pioneers of modern science were believers: Descartes, Newton, Kepler, Galileo, Copernicus, Faraday, Boyle, Mendel, Kelvin, Pasteur, Lister, Maxwell, Simpson had all been Christians.

One former Professor of Modern History at Oxford University described the resurrection as ‘the best-attested fact in history’.

Now of course, there are many highly intelligent people who are atheists; but equally there are many highly intelligent people who’ve looked at the evidence, who’ve come to the conclusion that it’s true.

On our ‘WarringtonAlpha course we are continuing to explore the questions people have about God and faith, we have a mix of non-Christians and Christians attending and finding that they have similar questions and are able to explore them together.

You’re Invited to attend #WarringtonAlpha taking place every Wednesday evening until the 10th July from 7 till 9:15pm, at St. Ann’s Church, Warrington.

We always start with a little food, before a talk and discussion, including exploring your questions, feeling and observations.

Is this it?

Some of the things covered in Week 1 at #WarringtonAlpha – it’s easy to go through life:  thinking ‘Is this it? There’s got to be more to life than this.’

In places like Warrington and generally the UK we can look around as we go shopping, and identify that many people have all the material comforts they desire, together with such non-material blessings as a happy family, and yet lead lives of desperation, understanding nothing but the fact that there is a hole inside of them. And however much food and drink they pour into it, however many motorcars and flat screen televisions they stuff it with, regardless of how many well balanced children and loyal friends they parade around the edges of their lives, it aches.

Some guests at our Alpha course thought, looking back, that’s what they have been experiencing: there is a kind of hole, sort of like a hunger – maybe a spiritual hunger.

Well Jesus said: ‘I’m the bread of life.’ He said: ‘I’m the one who can satisfy this spiritual hunger’ that really nothing else satisfies.

#WarringtonAlpha has started looking at the questions people want to ask about God, faith and much more. You’re Invited to join in from Week 2, when we look at exploring who Jesus is.

Anyone can attend even if you are non-Christian. Christians and non-Christians are equally welcome on this course to explore and find out more.

Come along to #WarringtonAlpha, every Wednesday evening 7-9:15pm until the 10th July 2019 at St. Ann’s Church, Warrington.Slide1

What happens on the Alpha course

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?
